Thule raceway platform 9003 - by kenrick smith
What I was looking for in a bike rack:
1) I wanted a strong well-made piece of equipment that was going to hold up over time.
2) A rack that is easy to use and can be put on quickly and with ease, as well as taken off the same way.
3) I wanted a rack that was affordable.
4)I wanted a rack that could fold up for easy storage and that folded up on our car.
5) Wanted a rack that was compatible for all sizes of bikes.
I felt that the THULE Raceway Platform 9003 provided all that I was looking for. After taking it home and using it for the first couple times this rack didn't disappoint. This rack is very versatile - being able to lock up my expensive triathlon bike all the way down to my son's little 16"er. The Raceway Platform is compatible on most vehicles. For us it fits on our Toyota Camry and our Town and Country minivan. Two totally different configurations but doesn't take anymore time to set it up for either one. It has the capability of being folded into a more compact state. The rack can be unfolded and stabilized onto the car within about three minutes. The ratcheting cables make for quick release and quick tightening features. It also has a quick release feature which makes it nice when I need to get something out of the trunk with it on the back. Once you have it set to your vehicle, then you just need to adjust two of the four straps. It has locking capabilities that lock the ratcheting cables into place and another lock on each arm holds the bikes in place. The structure of this rack is solid and am very comfortable driving down the highway at high speeds. I feel I made a very good investment with this product. On a scale one to five I give this product a four. I would of liked one or two more locking points in addition to its existing three. The one other thing I would of liked to see a more durable material (right now it is a flexible rubber strap) used to lock the wheels down to the trays.
The rack is folded up on the back of my Toyota. Only sticks out about 9" past the bumper. Notice bottom tray is extended out further than top tray - lots of adjustment.
