Philly Tri rock Race report
Arrived at transition with plenty of time to spare. My rack was placed perfectly in the middle, right between the big gap of racks, super easy to find.
This was my third Philly Tri Olympic distance, first race since IMTX
Swim 27:05 Rank 562 out of 1292
This is the first Philly Tri that was wet suit legal, also first staggered swim start. From the start I was able to get into a really easy rhythm. First Philly Tri that I did not get passed and was the one passing. I cut 8:32 minutes off 2012's time. Got out of the water feeling good, the usual dizzy and nearly got sick. This is nothing new, even the sickness, have a tendency to swallow water and need to adjust my breathing pattern.
Great rack set up, quick grab of helmet and ran bike out, shoes already clipped in, cut 1-2 minutes off 2012's time.
Bike 1:14:57 19.8 mph Rank 316
Well, how a little thing can throw you off. I have the Garmin 910XT, coming out of transition I hit a button and reset it. For the first 3-5 minutes on the bike I messed with it to try to reset it. Finally, powered it off and went by feel. Love this bike course, I found the experience over the past two years to be a big help on the hills. Lemon Hill: I found going from the far right to start the climb then swinging far left on first little flat section allowed me to keep my speed up. Also, the climb going up toward The Please Touch Museum, I stayed to the middle of the road which seemed smoother and lessened the incline at the switchback at the top of the hill. Overall improved on last year, just under 20mph, but should have been faster had I not messed with the Garmin.
Shoes stayed on the bike, perfect rack space again. Knocked 1-2 minutes off last year's time and was off and running.
Run 48:05, 7:45 pace Rank 271
Two out and backs. It got hot during the run, first 1.5 felt good but took a bit to get loose. I hadn't trained a ton since IMTX so I didn't push the run how I had hoped. Kept pace in the 7:30-7:50 range. I forgot in a way that it was only 6.2 miles and held back forgetting that it wasn't 26.2. I just lacked focus. Two huge bright spots. my friend brought her twins (for her husband) and my 3 year old son to watch the race. He was also there at IMTX.. I got to see him around mile 3 as I passed by transition and got a high five. The final 3.1 was hot, no real shade on this end and it got hot. I am not a fan of this section, the road is beveled (or at least I feel it is) and it messes with my stride and bothers my hip. I again saw Ty, my 3 year old and got another high five followed by "why do you keep running away" had me laughing as I passed.
Overall, great race super pleased, knocked off nearly 24 minutes from last year. This was my first triathlon in 2011, the growth since then has been amazing.
